With the MeToo movement on, there seems to be some confusion and debate as to what the boundaries are when it comes to flirting at the workplace. What may seem like a harmless flirt to one could be mistaken for harassment by the other. What kind of flirting is deemed as acceptable in today’s context?
The boundaries of flirting should exist irrespective of the #Metoo movement and whether they are at work place or not. When flirting, if what you said made the other person uncomfortable then you have crossed that boundary. What you need to have is the sensitivity and the ability to acknowledge to yourself that what you said was not appreciated. Being in denial and continuing to flirt is what leads to harassment.
That being said I am not a big fan of seeking romantic relationships at work – unless the feelings are very strong.
